Great build. Working in bike shop 1980’s-90’s. Could argue that the ‘budget’ LX groupset on this build easily will outlast the XT groupset of today!!

Im a fan of modern bars on a retro build but i find a stem with a rise that matches the angle of the downtube looks good and gets the bars up. My bars get all anodising removed and polished back to mirror then cut down, say kind of 2010 standards but old skool looks. These older bikes are closer to road bike geo than modern mtb. Take some fannagling! Super nice build, my 2nd fav, after the blue kona 👍

It looks like a piece of hickory that was sitting head down in water and developed rot on that end. Anyone who has broken firewood from the forest floor knows the feeling. You swing too hard and it breaks too easy.

I still have beef with Bridgestone for delaying mountain bike geometry progression by at least a decade if not more. The MB-1 introduced road bike geometry to mountain biking as opposed to the slacker geometry the Klunkers and early MTB’s had.

That definitely needs to be made into a gravel bike

I went to a local bike shop tjis weekend that was unfortunately closing down... on the wall in the service area was a vintage Bridgestone MB-2 lugged frame bike. Complete 7 speed XT groupset other then the derailleurs. Asked how much as it had a mint set of cook bros cranks on it... "Someone gave it to us a few years ago as a wall hanger, so free for you today" 😊

That bike is adorable. This was my era of mountain biking, I was training as a guide, riding a custom steel frame and loving the biking. Now I am an old lady with a nearly thirty year old bike that I can ride occasionally. My steel frame is retired and hangs on my office wall to remind me of my youth. Does giving old things new life include us? 😁
